Coming together to shape the future of glass

As part of the Val Saint Lambert Bicentenary, the Uhoda Group is launching the first edition of The Glass Forum, an event dedicated to the key challenges, developments and opportunities shaping the future of the glass sector.

From industry and research to new technologies, emerging applications and design, the evening will bring together businesses, researchers, industry bodies, economic stakeholders and public institutions to share expertise and discuss the future of glass in Wallonia.

Organised by the Uhoda Group with the support of GRE-Liège, ULiège, InDuFed, Agoria, LIEGE CREATIVE and AKT-CCI LVN, The Glass Forum represents the academic and business strand of the Val Saint Lambert Bicentenary.

PROGRAMME

18:00 | Welcome

Guests will be welcomed at the Château du Val Saint Lambert and invited to visit the “Cristal Vivant” bicentenary exhibition at the Museum at their own pace.

An opportunity to experience two centuries of creativity and craftsmanship before turning the conversation towards the future.

Pierre-Yves Jeholet
Minister of the Government of Wallonia for Economy, Industry, Digital Affairs, Employment and Training

18:45 | PANEL 1

Decarbonising the glass industry: preserving its strengths, shaping its future

Energy, electrification, changing production processes, investment, recycling and competitiveness: how can the glass sector meet the challenge of decarbonisation while maintaining and developing a strong industry in Wallonia?

This first panel will bring together perspectives from industry, business and academia to explore the changes already under way and those still needed.

19:20 | PANEL 2

Research, technology and new applications: imagining the glass of tomorrow

What is research working on today? Which new processes are emerging? What applications have yet to be imagined?

This second panel will explore the connections between research, industry and technology companies, as well as the opportunities that innovation in glass can create far beyond glass manufacturing itself.

19:55 | PANEL 3

From craftsmanship to market: design, brand and new opportunities for crystal

How can centuries-old craftsmanship continue to create value in a changing market? What role can design play in developing new applications, reaching new audiences and opening up new commercial opportunities?

Using crystal as a case study, this panel will explore design as a driver for growth, from new applications and creative collaborations to brand positioning and new markets.

As it celebrates its 200th anniversary, Val Saint Lambert will provide the starting point for a broader discussion: how can an industrial and creative heritage evolve and create new opportunities for the future?

20:30 | Cocktail Reception & Networking

The evening will continue with a cocktail reception.

An opportunity to continue the conversation and build connections between industry professionals, researchers, technology companies, designers, economic stakeholders and public institutions.
